About

GUITAR & SONGWRITING LESSONS

I offer guitar and songwriting lessons to students of all ages and levels, with a particular specialisation in teaching adults, in a friendly and welcoming environment. My lessons are focussed on enjoyment, and are tailored to each individual student’s needs and learning goals.

The three main areas I offer lessons in are:

  • Guitar lessons
  • Guitar for singers/songwriters
  • Songwriting

I have 10 years of teaching experience, both in music schools and privately, across all styles of guitar performance. I specialise in the genres of folk, fingerstyle, pop and classical guitar performance, and in folk, rock and singer/songwriter styles of songwriting.

GUITAR LESSONS

Having completed a Bachelor of Music (Performance) at Monash University, my lessons are designed to help you learn your favourite music, through a focus on technique, tone and skills development on the guitar. I teach all styles, but I have a handful of genres that I specialise in.

Specialty Styles/Genres:

  • Contemporary (pop & rock)
  • Folk
  • Fingerstyle
  • Classical guitar
  • Fingerstyle
  • Jazz/trad jazz

Upon request, I offer lessons to students who are preparing for:

  • AMEB
  • CPM
  • VCE

GUITAR FOR SINGERS/SONGWRITERS

These are specialised, tailored lessons for singers/songwriters who are looking to work on the nuances of practical and technical guitar skills related to also being an active vocalist and/or songwriter.

This can be anything from looking at practical exercises to help multitasking between singing and guitar playing, learning how to expand options for accompanying yourself on guitar, learning technical focal points relevant to complement singing, or expanding how to write and arrange guitar parts specifically for songwriting, among other areas. These are suitable for complete guitar beginners up to advanced players.

SONGWRITING LESSONS

These lessons are for music students of all levels who are keen to work on their songwriting skills. Each lesson will be tailor-made to your needs and songwriting goals. This could be for those entirely new to songwriting, those who have been practicing songwriting for a while but would like to take the next step and may be unsure of where to go next, or to practicing professionals who would like advice on specific songwriting nuance. These lessons can include focus on music theory, harmony, aural training, song writing structure, lyric writing and reading music.

WORKSHOPS & ENSEMBLES

I offer all students the opportunity to participate in any one or more of the following workshops and ensembles I run on a regular basis:

  • Classical Guitar Ensemble
  • Contemporary Guitar Ensemble
  • Songwriting workshop
  • Bi-annual performance night

N.B. These workshops and ensembles are not running during Covid19 restrictions.

With years of experience in performing in multiple music groups around Australia and a postgraduate degree in Music Business, my lessons can offer a focus on ensemble/band performance as well as music industry advice.

For students keen to organise a first lesson, please feel free to contact me on my mobile number of email address.

All students welcome!
