I am a saxophonist and composer based in Parkville. I work as an instrumental teacher at Ivanhoe Grammar School, and teach privately at home. Many the students I teach have opted to do AMEB exams; others simply learn for the enjoyment of playing. Beginner students are welcome.
I have completed a Bachelor of Music at Melbourne University and Masters of Music Performance (saxophone/composition) at the VCA. I also accept advanced students, especially those interested enhancing technical facility.
I also teach composition to students in secondary and tertiary levels. These lessons focus on various aspects of compositional craft, aural skills and music theory.
In all my teaching, I consider the best way forward for an individual student, and aim to provide the clearest possible instruction one step at a time. This applies to beginner students in developing a technical foundation on their instrument, to more advanced students in realising very particular goals.
The emphasis of my creative work is a composer, and in producing work that is unique in its stylistic statement. I am interested in contiuning to develop various aspects of this craft in ever greater depth and rigor, and which continually re-evaluates the language through which it is devised.
I also love to play and love to improvise.
