About

Hello, my name is Siwei. I am an experienced and invigorating teacher, passionate about guiding students to finding their personal voice through the chosen instrument. I offer a practical and holistic approach to learning to play: developing core music fundamentals, strong technique and creative expression – together.

PIANO
In each lesson students will receive one-on-one teaching, musical care and guidance from me for 45 – 60min. From the outset we can discuss your musical goals, vision and/or path of growth for the piano. Lessons are tailored uniquely to you. Teaching content ranges from:
– Sight reading, Learning AMEB, or other song repertoire of your choice
– Jazz & Improvisation, Performing
– Songwriting, Composition (option of including vocals)
…with the option of learning all of the above!

HARP
I have a unique approach to playing the harp influenced from a combination of knowledge I have gained from practicing classical, jazz, blues and improvisation. For individuals who dream of playing the harp in any of these styles: singing and playing, jazz, pop, rock, improvisation, songwriting and composition – I can offer you strong fundamental technique, understanding of the theory and ways of developing your creative voice on harp!

Background:
I am a performing pianist, multi-instrumentalist and composer/songwriter; recent graduate of VCA-MCM (University of Melbourne) with BMus (Jazz & Improvisation, Piano). Piano is my main instrument, however I also perform regularly on both lever/pedal harps, and contemporary voice.

I been under tutelage of some great teachers including my principal teacher of study Steve Sedergreen, and supplementary lessons for various aspects of piano from Caroline Al Monte, Andrea Keller and Cathy Yip. Currently I learn contemporary voice with Nina Ferro.
Additionally I have had practice of Alexander Technique with the piano, harp and voice that supplement body awareness with these instruments, technique and musical creativity.
