I am an experienced and passionate singing tutor and beginner piano tutor for all ages. I offer to come to you!
Singing Lessons
Each singing lesson begins with a vocal warm up to prepare the voice for singing. The particular warm up’s that I teach focus on breath, technique and the correct placement of vowel shapes. This develops strong technique and an understanding of controlled breathing. Each student is sent a warm up track to practice with in their own time, this is important for maintaining and improving breathing and vocal techniques. As I have previously worked in professional musical theatre, I have myself had a professional level of musical theatre and contemporary training, as well as the experience of working along side with Lisa McCune, John Waters and Bert Newton in The Sound of Music at the Lyric Theatre, Sydney. I have completed my Bachelor of Music, extending my knowledge and passion for the importance of music theory, composition and performance etiquette.
Singing lessons involve improving the student’s vocal and breathing technique as well as their musical development and understanding.
Piano Lessons
Beginner piano lessons focus on the introduction of how to play the piano and how to read music. This is a very important stage in learning the piano, as it is where we train the correct placement of our fingers and wrists when playing the piano in which we develop a muscle memory. The student and teacher work through a beginner piano book together, maintaining a confident and comfortable approach to learning correct fingering and developing an understanding of music theory. Each student will learn major and minor scales, strengthening their technique. Learning scales contributes to further the student’s knowledge and understanding of the piano and it’s relationship to the stave in which we read and write music on. Beginner piano music books are correctly designed to introduce new concepts and musical ideas in a gradual and manageable manner.
It is my goal and intention as the music teacher to carefully explain and demonstrate the musical techniques and theoretical concepts while correcting mistakes along the way. I am passionate about teaching and encouraging each student to develop the correct techniques in their instrument and a strong understanding of music theory, while developing their own sense of style and expression as they progress.
As a musician it is important to understand the basic elements of music. Lessons additionally focus on ear training, allowing each student to develop recognition and knowledge of pitch, harmony, intervals, chords, rhythm, scales and modes. Practicing scales and vocal pieces is essential for personal growth.
As an experienced piano player I am passionate to excel each students understanding and ability to collaborate with an accompanist. I am currently preparing senior students for their HSC major works at Nepean Performing and Creative Arts High School, as to which I will be accompanying them for the trial and final performances. This way the students are able to learn the vocal
techniques and collaborative skills in a comfortable and reliable environment. The familiarity helps with nerves, and contributes to a smooth and confident performance. I myself achieved a band 6 in music when completing the HSC. All three songs that I performed were nominated for Encore at the Opera House (meaning that I received a mark of 98 or higher for each piece) and my orchestral composition was also nominated for Encore (meaning that I achieved a mark of 100). I am passionate to prepare and support my HSC students to achieve the highest mark possible in their HSC performances. I currently teach singing at Nepean Performing and Creative Arts High School, Blue Mountains Grammar School, Stormer Music, Springwood School of Music and privately in the Blue Mountains.
