I am an experienced performer and teacher, teaching from my home studio in Burwood. After graduating from the NSW Conservatorium with Distinction I held a position as violinist in the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. I have over 30 years of teaching experience and hold a Diploma of Music (Honours). I previously held the position of Head of Strings at Eltham College and later Westbourne & Williamstown Grammar School.
I take a caring expert approach to teaching my violin students, ensuring that they have a sound technical foundation to build on. Emphasis is placed on good posture and hand positions, as well as solid intonation. While technique is important, lessons are given in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Students are encouraged to enjoy their violin lessons and develop their own way of expressing their musicality. All students are taught to read music fluently from the beginning.
A variety of music from various sources is offered, including the classical and traditional music from the AMEB syllabus. Students may choose to sit for AMEB exams where appropriate. I also prepare students for music scholarship auditions, with a number of students having recently received scholarships to local private schools. Students are also invited to participate in student concerts each semester.
I offer a free trial lesson to school students, without any obligation. Please feel free to call or email me if you have further questions.
