My name is Laura and I am a private music teacher in Newtown NSW. I specialise in vocal coaching, and I teach students from age 4 to adults, beginners to professionals. I also teach flute, guitar, and ukulele. Guitar and ukulele can be taught in conjunction with vocal lessons as an accompanying instrument if desired.
I have a Bachelor of Music (Contemporary Performance), majoring as a vocalist, and have been working as a music teacher since 2015. I have also completed specialist vocal teacher training courses post-university and have a comprehensive understanding of the voice and vocal anatomy. I also have experience teaching students with autism spectrum disorder.
My students come to me for singing lessons for a number of reasons. Most commonly, my students simply enjoy singing and want to improve their ability, with the ultimate goal being performance. I also have students who have difficulty with self-confidence and vocal projection. Singing has greatly helped these students to gain more confidence in themselves and their ability to communicate with others. Singing has also been proven to help with dealing with mental illness, such as depression and anxiety. This has been my personal experience with singing, and my own overall happiness has improved dramatically since singing regularly.
Although I have continued my education specifically as a vocalist, I have been playing the flute since 1999, and guitar since 2007. All of my students who have undertaken AMEB exams have achieved excellent results.
