Mary uses a unique approach in teaching piano that is creative yet structured, making each lesson an enjoyable experience.  Armed with qualifications in AMEB piano and music theory, as well as a Diplomas in both Holistic Counselling and Art Therapy,  she puts an edge to her piano lessons that allows the student to flourish, using her own self-published piano books (as well as other books), games, props, activities and exercises incorpriating:

  • Theory
  • Aural Training
  • Sight-reading
  • Scales
  • Chord-building
  • Technique
  • Composition
  • Improvisation
  • Duets

and other music concepts, making the learning experience a fully rounded music journey.

At the end of each school term she holds Piano Parties allowing the student an opportunity to gather with other students in a small, informal group, where music performances are shared and games are played.  At the end of each year a Christmas concert is held at an aged care centre, which parents are welcome to attend.

She is experienced and qualified, having achieved a B standard in Grade 7 Piano and Grade 3 Music Theory through AMEB.   She has performed at various venues in Melbourne including cafes, aged care centers, the Alfred Hospital, the Melbourne City Library and the Breslin Art Gallery.  She is also a Visual Artist, having held 3 solo exhibitions to date and having sold many artworks over many years.  She blends her artistic flair with her musical prowress, with an outcome being a strong focus on the artistry in music-making, and an approach to her teaching that caters to the visual, auditory and tactile style learner.

Mary supports students through AMEB exams (and has helped her many students over many years achieve excellent results of only A's and B's!), or simply for leisure.

Parents are welcome to wait in the music room during the piano lesson and are even encouraged to do so, as this will enable them to provide better support at their home practice.  Smaller siblings are welcome too if they are quiet and supervised. Mobile phones are requested to be turned off during lessons.

Fees are payable upon each lesson in cash, or by direct deposit in bulk lots of 5 or more lessons.

Everything is about making the world a more beautiful place through music.
