About
All styles of playing, all age groups, from beginner to advanced levels.
I have over 15 years of drum teaching experience, including private lessons, tertiary tuition, masterclasses and group workshops. I teach students of all ability levels across a wide range of genres with a focus on technique and body mechanics as applied to the drum kit. I am now accepting students for drum lessons in Melbourne at my Kensington studio.
About Steve:
Steve cut his percussive teeth in the rock driven ‘90s, hitting the ground running on the Australian tour and festival circuit. Recording a handful of studio releases and playing the Big Day Out and Livid festivals with staple Aussie bands like Bulldozer and The Full Colour was just the beginning.
Inspired to share his love for the craft of drumming, in 1998 Steve opened his own teaching studio in association with Billy Hyde Drumworx in Brisbane, Australia. After Completing a Bachelor of Music at the QLD Conservatorium 2001 and now also teaching at JMC Academy and The Drum Cartel in Brisbane (& Melbourne in 2015), he devotes a large part of his time to teaching drums to around 60 students per week while balancing a busy tour schedule.
An integral member of contemporary rock and indie outfits The Given Things, Medollic and A Family of Strangers, to the masses Steve has been best known as the drummer for the platinum selling, Sony/BMG recording artist Kate Miller-Heidke. Steve performed and recorded with Kate for 7 years, tracking drums for her ‘Circular Breathing’ EP, ‘Little Eve’, ‘Curiouser’ and ‘Nightflight’ albums, touring extensively in Australia, Europe and Asia. Steve has performed live at the 2007 ARIA Awards, Channel 10‘s Rove, Vodaphone’s Live at the Chapel, Channel 7′s Sunrise, Channel 7′s The Morning Show, ABC TV’s The Sideshow, Channel V’s Playroom Sessions, Channel 10′s Video Hits, and the MTV Exit concert series in Nepal, Vietnam and Thailand.
More recently, Steve has been in high demand as a recording and touring session player. As well as working with many emerging artists, he has worked with high profile Australian acts including the likes of Darren Hayes and Angus & Julia Stone.
Steve provides lessons in Melbourne and is available for live and studio session work Australia wide.
