The Piano Tree - Mary-Ann Murnane
Piano Music Teacher
Mary-Ann has been teaching piano and music at schools, kindergartens and her private studio for 15 years.
Mary-Ann began playing the piano at age 7 with her mother, a piano teacher. Mary-Ann completed a BA (Hons) majoring in music and theatre studies and a Grad. Dip. Hum. (Music) at La Trobe University in 1998. Mary-Ann also studied piano with Klara Ambrus for several years and she completed training in Orff-Schulwerk, an integrated approach to music education.
While living on the Mexico/US border for 8 years, Mary-Ann worked as a performing/teaching artist with Alejandro Espino Aldana, co-founder of ensemble ‘Arbol Azul.’ Together, they toured the arts-in-education program ‘Canto a La Luna: A Musical Journey through Latin America’ for Young Audiences of San Diego and the Bureau of Lectures and Performing Artists in the USA, for Nexus Arts in Australia and as artist-in-residence at Centro Cultural Tijuana, Mexico.
Mary-Ann is currently completing her Grad. Dip. Ed. (Primary) at Monash University and she is a member of the Victorian Music Teachers Association and Amaze (Autism Victoria Inc).
For her own pleasure, Mary-Ann plays minimalist composers such as Glass, Tiersen and Satie. She also has an affinity for the beautifully dissonant music of folk inspired composers such as Bartok, Khatchaturian, Villa Lobos and Piazzolla.
