In my 20 years of playing violin and 5 years of teaching I have been fortunate enough to have had an extremely wide variety of experiences from playing my own solo recitals to recording albums to playing in musicals and operas and even in rock bands. In this current day string players have more opportunities than available to them than just playing in a classical music orchestra. In my studies I have done my Grade 8 AMEB (A Result) practical exam and Grade 5 AMEB theory exam (Passed with Distinction) as well as the VCE subjects Solo Music Performance, Group Music Performance and Music Styles which makes me extremely well practiced when it comes to preparing for exams of any kind. In 2013 I completed my Bachelor of Music at Monash University. My oldest student recently sat her AMEB Second Grade Violin Exam and she passed with an A result. In the current schools where I teach I have found that some students are not engaging with classical music and found very little motivation to practice. Working together with the student I found the music that they preferred to play and agreed that we could learn the pieces that they wanted provided they promised to do the technical work to develop their playing. It is my understanding of what motivates and inspires students that makes me a wonderful strings teacher for all students, not just the motivated ones.
