Eileen Gilligan has over 40 years experience teaching the flute. She has taught privately since 1976 and been AMEB examiner for over 15 years.
She was also on the faculty of Music at Melbourne University for 10 years teaching tertiary performance.
As a professional flute player she has performed widely in Europe and Australia. Eileen studied with William Bennett, Stephen Preston, Peter Lukas-Graf, Trevor Wye, James Galway and others in Australia and Eu-rope.
She also owns and runs TheFlautist.com where you can hear her play and give lessons.

I love how you don’t sound like everyone else – there is so much imitation out there, it’s not common to find a tone and style that is really unique. I always enjoy your videos, even if sometimes I don’t comment on them.
I’ve been getting lessons with Eileen since the start of 2022 and I’ve never seen such a quick improvement in my tone. Eileen makes lessons and practise fun. We always focus a lot of foundation tools which are posted on her website, which is super helpful. If I ever need to recheck any foundation tool I can always just go onto the website and check. However when it comes to pieces she has always done the research on the writer and the story behind the song which makes it a lot easier to connect with the piece; she also includes backing tracks and her own recordings of the piece.
Eileen is one of the greatest flute pedagogues that I have ever studied with. She is an absolute master when it comes to understanding and applying the fundamentals and core principles of flute playing. Eileen’s extensive knowledge is beautifully catalogued on this site with recordings, informational posts, and “mini lessons” on everything from harmonics to Moyse 24 Melodious Etudes. I have a membership and use it every single time I practice. It’s absolutely brilliant and has taken my playing to another level!
