Andrew McLean is a Melbourne‑based trumpet and piano teacher whose work spans orchestral performance, commercial music, and high‑level education. He holds a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours from Edinburgh Napier University and a Master of Performance with Distinction from the Royal College of Music, London — one of the world’s leading conservatoires. His training under internationally recognised teachers has shaped a teaching style that blends technical precision with musical depth.
As a performer, Andrew has appeared with many of the UK’s major orchestras, including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO), the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (BBCSSO), the Philharmonia Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra. His versatility extends well beyond the classical world, having performed with artists such as Nile Rodgers and Rudimental, as well as touring productions including Sweeney Todd. This breadth of experience allows him to offer students a rare insight into both the orchestral profession and the wider music industry.
Andrew’s teaching is grounded in strong fundamentals, clear communication, and an adaptable approach that supports each student’s individual goals. Whether preparing for AMEB exams, VCE performance, auditions, or simply learning for enjoyment, he provides structured, thoughtful guidance that builds confidence and long‑term musicianship. His students benefit from a teacher who not only understands the demands of professional performance but also knows how to translate that knowledge into accessible, engaging lessons.
Now based in Hawthorn East, Andrew teaches trumpet and piano to students of all ages and levels across Melbourne’s inner east. His studio offers a supportive, focused environment where developing musicians can grow technically, creatively, and personally under the guidance of an experienced and active professional.
