About

O’Connor Method in Australia-teaching this method since 2015.
A lifelong musician ,violinist since I was 14 and with over 50 years experience as a performer. I play many genres as a fiddle player and have worked professionally in the field of fiddle music. Celtic and American styles are a specialty. I teach O’CONNOR METHOD for strings, through mixed genre ,put together by living legend and multi-instrumentalist virtuoso MARK O’CONNOR . In July 2015 I gained accreditation in The O’Connor Method-A New American School of String Playing. This teacher training involved 15 hours training at fundamental level (I&II) and travelling to America to complete this course at O’Connor Method Camp ,Portland ,Maine. Editor and teacher trainer in Books I&II was Ms.Pam Wiley, who is still going strong in her mid seventies ,having had 40 years in pedagogy teaching and performance. In July 2016 I returned to America and completed Intermediate(III&IV) and Advanced level(V) books in teacher training at O’Connor Method Camp in New York City with Mark and Maggie O’Connor and an exceptional staff of string tutors. Currently Books I,II,III,IV& V for VIOLIN are available in hardcopy from Printmusic Works Melbourne ,Australia or now as a digital download directly from SHAR Music ( America) . Mark intends to take us up to Book 10, after book V they will be repertoire rather than tutor books. Orchestra books for I&II also go with these ,as do viola and cello Books I&II. I intend to teach this wonderful method in conjuction with AMEB for students who sit exams and it works perfectly with it.Mark’s tunes are also currently used in the manual syllabus AMEB Grades 5-8. I promote The O’Connor Method in Australia now, and am officially the first Australian to be accredited ! Check out the Find a Teacher section on website to see our Australian accreditation listing. www.oconnormethod.com All tunes for all the books are also available on this site under AUDIO and information for anything O’Connor method. Also check out www.markoconnor.com for music and latest news. What I love about the method is the teaching through different genres, with classical, bluegrass, old timey,blues,Latin,rock,ragtime,jazz,celtic-from America,Canada and Mexico. It’s a wholistic approach to music, learning with a …’ gradual development technique in left hand and bowing skills and ear training as revealed through the study of beautiful music that encourages a love of music making in a slow, steady and natural way …(MO’C) All ages and level entry can use this method. Listening, performance and learning melody, harmony, chordal structure, improvisation and group playing is encouraged from the start. It gives the student a structure that enables being able to choose a style to specialise in if so desired in the future. Contact me for any further info or to book a complimentary intro , where I explain in more detail the method and why I love teaching it so much! I am teaching online lessons , home at Randwick( inner city Sydney) ,or at your place.
