Leitham Brown
About

Leitham is currently accepting students.

Having a longstanding passion for music and cello tuition, Leitham is now undertaking honours in music performance at UWA. Leitham’s academic interests include cello pedagogy and teaching methods for developing and refining cello technique and chamber music skills.

Stylistically, Leitham’s teaching methods are deeply detail-oriented regarding technique, whilst also being holistic in his belief that technical achievement is only a tool to share the emotional content of the music.
Students can expect to be trained in music theory organically within the context of the repertoire they study, as well as undergo ear-training in lessons.

Leitham is intimately familiar with the AMEB syllabus, being easily capable of preparing students for their AMEB exams.

Having taught since the beginning of 2020, Leitham’s students have already won multiple eisteddfods, been brought from scratch to level 2 (Grade 5 & above) AMEB students in just a couple of years, played in chamber music competitions, passed WAYO auditions, obtained multiple musical scholarships, and passed auditions into well-established high-school music programmes such as Churchlands and St Mary’s.

Leitham also has a flourishing performance career, continually expanding his cello abilities by undertaking licentiate works, and grinding his way through all 40 Popper Etudes. He is also busy playing substantial repertoire with his string quartet, and quintet of guitar and strings.

Leitham studied under Shigeru Komatsu (WASO Cellist), Dr Suzanne Wijsman (UWA head of lower strings), and Jon Tooby (WAAPA Strings Co-director and retired conductor of the Darwin Symphonic).
