About

Dear friends, My career in music education has encompassed over 40 years of teaching piano privately as well as primary and secondary school teaching. Whether it be one on one, in a classroom, or conducting a music ensemble, I have a proven ability to bring out the best in my pupils. I believe that an assertive, enthusiastic and collaborative approach is essential to motivating students to achieve their best and develop their own passion for music. I believe that music is about creativity and having fun! I teach from beginner to diploma levels of piano and theory/musicianship (AMEB, Trinity syllabus preparation.) Music for leisure and contemporary styles can be incorporated into lesson plans. I teach from my home environment which makes it relaxing and comfortable for my students. I am to able to quickly establish a rapport with individuals, adopt a positive learning approach which respects learner diversity and responds to student needs. My lessons are structured yet creative, and I try to utilise movement, activity and other instruments. I actively engage students in lesson and practice plans. This is my education background – GTCL ( Trinity College of Music London), LTCL (Trinity College of Music London), ARCM ( Royal College of Music), Dip.Ed ( Homerton College, Cambridge UK), Accreditation ( Conservatorium of Music Sydney) I have had outstanding examinations results from Preliminary to grade 8 My teaching history includes: Teacher and Head of Music in various schools in the United Kingdom and Australia. I was the Director of Music for Danebank Anglican Girls School and also Head Teacher of Music at Mosman Primary School. Previous to this I was Director of Music, St Philips Christian College in Newcastle. In my previous career as director of music, I have had the pleasure of leading ensembles, conducting school bands and orchestras, choirs, small group ensembles, eisteddfods, competitions and school spectaculars. My methodology in teaching involves getting to know students, respecting and adapting to individual learning styles and motivating factors. I aim to make lessons fun and interesting as possible! I build a solid foundation of technique and musicianship skills, which I believe is essential for further development. As a music piano teacher, I select appropriate growth repertoire, coordinate group recitals. I endeavor to liaise with parents regarding progress and future development of children. Each lesson provides a record of progress, practice plans, how to practice and areas to improve.
