About

I am an effective, enthusiastic violin teacher with ten years of experience teaching children and adults. I offer a flexible, convenient, and fun way to learn the violin, with individual lessons delivered at my home in Henley Beach. At the moment, I have times available after school hours most weeknights. While regular lesson times are available, I am also happy to offer flexible arrangements to work around your schedule.

I specialise in teaching beginners to intermediate students, with a focus on developing a classical skillset that will allow them to continue to play at a higher level, if they choose to, rather than focusing on pushing through grades at the expense of good technique.

I particularly emphasise the development of excellent technique and posture, particularly for beginners, to ensure that students have a solid base on which to build as they progress. Too often, posture and technique are neglected early on, which can be difficult for students to correct later and may cause back pain and damage. Attention to detail in the early stages of learning makes sure that students can continue to play for as long as they like, without suffering unnecessary pain or discomfort.

I teach children from the age of four onward, and highly recommend including music in your child’s education from a young age as studies have shown that learning an instrument can increase your child’s academic performance, as well as helping to develop their memory, creative thinking, and motor skills.

However, if you didn’t learn as a child, it’s absolutely never too late to learn! Taking up challenging hobbies later in life has been proven to have a positive effect on your brain, as well as helping to keep your memory sharp. I have taught everyone from young adults to retirees and age has never been a barrier to success. Adults of all ages are very welcome to learn with me, and I am happy to organise flexible lesson times around work and home commitments.

Though AMEB exams are not essential, all of my students have the option of sitting for them. In preparing students for exams, my focus is always on the wellbeing of the student, and my style of teaching reflects this, with a focus on providing specific, constructive criticism and encouragement. I firmly believe that all students have the capacity to learn music, and my exam students regularly achieve excellent results.

So if you or your child have ever wanted to learn the violin, or are looking for a new teacher to continue previous study, please don’t hesitate to contact me for details.

I am happy to offer one free half hour trial lesson and consult, after which my fees are $35 for a half hour lesson, or $65 for one hour, at my home. I also offer a discount on lessons purchased in bundles of ten.

While most lessons take place at my home, please feel free to contact me if you are looking at lessons for two or more people in the same location, or lessons of an hour or more for a single person, as I am able to offer some flexibility as regards location in these circumstances.
