Matthew has taken lessons and masterclasses with an extensive list of some the worlds top violinists and pedagogues including, Zakhar Bron, Lara St. John, Dene Olding, Pekka Kuusisito and Rudolph Koelman. Passing on the knowledge gained from performance experience of over 30 Concertos is one of Matthew’s key goals. He has teaching experience in schools and privately from young beginners to advanced undergraduates as well as tutoring at state music camps.

Currently accepting students online with Zoom/skype lessons and in studio in Sydenham, Melbourne. For an extra $5 travel fee there is the possibility to give lessons in your home.

Classical, all ability levels from beginner to tertiary level, any age from 5 to Adult.

Pricing $75/hour $60/45 mins $40/half hour

Born in Townsville, North Queensland, Matthew Rigby completed his Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University with violin pedagogue Elizabeth Morgan. During this time he won all of the performance competitions open to him and was awarded the highest recital performance marks for strings in the conservatorium’s history.

In 2007 Matthew received first prize in the Gisborne International Music Competition and the Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition. In addition to these landmark performances, Matthew performed extensively as soloist with numerous orchestras throughout Australia and New Zealand. He has been the recipient of many awards and scholarships including a Llewellyn Foundation Scholarship and the Hugh Brandon Memorial Scholarship from the Australian Music Examinations Board. Additionally, Matthew was shortlisted for the Andrea Postacchini International Violin Competition in Fermo, Italy and as part of the competition was invited to give a solo recital.

Matthew has been based in Melbourne since 2009 where he studied at the Australian National Academy of Music with violin pedagogues William Hennessy and Adam Chalabi. This period saw him perform with members of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and perform chamber music with artists such as Anthony Marwood and the Brodsky Quartet. In recent years, he has regularly been performing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, whilst touring as a Chamber musician and soloist in the UK, Germany, Spain, China and Australia.
