After years of teaching in schools and performing in community ensembles and musicals, I found myself stepping into the role of Musical Director for a community ensemble of mature-aged learners.
What struck me immediately was their enthusiasm and drive. They were there because they *wanted* to be — for the joy of it. They were engaged, curious, committed… and sometimes they even got my jokes!
Working with adults who simply wanted to make music for themselves was deeply inspiring. There was no pressure of grades or comparison — just the pure enjoyment of playing, the calm it brings, and the quiet pride that comes from achieving something new.
That experience stayed with me.
It reminded me that music doesn’t belong to just a syllabus or a stage — it belongs to everyone.
And that’s where the concept for Monique’s Music was born.
