Po is a classically trained pianist with experience playing solo recitals, chamber music, and orchestral piano, as well as in musical theatre, jazz and pop ensembles. He is passionate about teaching, with 9 years of teaching experience with students of all ages and levels, and has previously worked at Melbourne High School and South Oakleigh Secondary College as a piano teacher.
Po recently completed three years at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) following a double Bachelor degree in Music and Commerce at Monash University, receiving multiple awards at each, as well as graduating with First Class Honours from the University of Melbourne.
Po is an active musician, recently being Musical Director for Beaumaris Theatre’s production of “A Year with Frog and Toad”, and performing Mahler’s 8th symphony with the Western Australia Symphony Orchestra. He regularly plays piano and conducts for Yarra Gospel Choir, and does accompaniment for AMEB exams, university concerts and scholarship auditions.
As a piano teacher, Po aims to help students achieve their own musical goals, whether it be to reach a certain level or to be comfortable playing in a certain style. He enjoys challenging students and discovering what they can achieve, and endeavours to foster a high standard of musicality and technique. Above all, he believes teaching should be about helping students create music.
Po maintains a limited studio of piano students at his home in Mount Waverley. Diploma students learn on a Yamaha grand piano. He holds a current Working With Children Check.
