Biography

Richard ‘Chuck” Probert was among the first jazz students to graduate from the Victorian College of Arts in Melbourne, Australia. He has studied trumpet with Bob Venier, Geoffrey Payne (principal trumpet Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) and Rob Smithies (principal trumpet Opera Australia). Performance background includes: – Princess Cruises (Sun, Diamond, Pacific) – Celebrity Cruises – Cunnard Cruise Line (QEII) – Wish the Magic Tour with 32 piece orchestra (UK) – BB Big Band (Manchester UK) – Texas Chainsaw Orchestra (London UK) – Lead trumpet /jazz soloist, Out For The Count Big Band, Dizzy’s Big Band, DR Big Band, Tramways Big Band (Melbourne) – Jazz/Fusion Band ‘Streams’ – Jazz/Fusion Band ‘Arachnids’ – recorded with composer/producer Sebastian Lorefice – recorded with indie recording artist Radio Caroline South. – Regular performances at Port Fairy, Inverloch, Grampians and Merimbula Jazz Festivals Richard is a highly experienced music educator with many years working as an instrumental music teacher in Victorian government and private schools. His emphasis is on developing the best possible foundation for future musical development regardless of style. Beginner to advanced players will cover all aspects of effective performance technique including AMEB exam repertoire, range development and styles from popular/ commercial to jazz improvisation. Essential music theory also covered in lessons.
