About

Singaporean soprano Shimona Rose is an award-winning performer and experienced recitalist, and the 2024 Pendine International Voice of the Future. She graduated with a Master of Performance with Distinction from the Royal College of Music, studying with Amanda Roocroft, and previously completed her Bachelor of Music at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music under Carrie Barr. Her training has also included the Franz-Schubert-Institut in Baden bei Wien, where she worked with leading Lied coaches including Andreas Schmidt, Julius Drake, Roger Vignoles and Helmut Deutsch.

Shimona has performed widely across opera, recital and oratorio repertoire, with roles including Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Anne Trulove (The Rake’s Progress), Nanetta (Falstaff), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) and The Governess (The Turn of the Screw). She has appeared with companies and venues including Singapore Lyric Opera, Victorian Opera, Melbourne Opera, New Opera Singapore, The Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, and St John’s Fulham, and is the recipient of numerous prizes and scholarships for both opera and art song performance.

Alongside her performing career, Shimona is deeply passionate about teaching and music therapy. She completed a Master of Arts in Music Therapy at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where she also worked as an instrumental tutor for voice, supporting music therapy students in developing healthy vocal technique and confident music-making.

Her teaching is grounded in the belief that healthy technique and musicality go hand in hand. By building a strong technical foundation — through breath, body awareness and vocal pedagogy — singers develop the freedom and confidence to communicate story, character and emotion authentically.

Lessons are tailored to each individual and begin with understanding how your unique voice works. Practical warm-ups and exercises are introduced with clear purpose, empowering students to practise independently and develop lasting skills. As technique becomes more natural, sessions expand into repertoire, interpretation and expressive storytelling.

Above all, Shimona strives to create a relaxed, collaborative and encouraging environment, where students feel supported, challenged and inspired. Whether you’re exploring classical singing for the first time, returning after a break, or preparing for performances or exams, lessons are designed to be both rewarding and enjoyable.

She works primarily with singers aged 14 and above to ensure healthy vocal development.

If you’re curious about lessons, Shimona warmly welcomes enquiries and would love to hear about your musical journey.
