I’m a Suzuki Method violin and viola teacher with over 25 years of experience. Originally from Utah, I began my teaching career in Seattle, Washington, where I directed The Suzuki Academy at Music Center of the Northwest. I moved to Brisbane in 2009 to be with my Australian husband, and I now teach in Mitchelton, offering private lessons on weekdays from 7:30am to 8pm.
I work with students aged 4 through adult and also offer online lessons for interstate and international students. You’re welcome to browse the testimonials and check out photos and videos of my students in action.
Teaching Approach
Specialising in the Suzuki method, I help each student discover their unique musical voice in a warm and structured environment. I build strong foundations in technique and musicianship while encouraging motivation through small achievable steps, group classes, and studio recitals. Violin is challenging, especially in the beginning—but I believe in making learning joyful, playful, and creative. I use humour, imaginative games, and props to keep students engaged and inspired, and I love helping families bring that spirit of fun into their practice at home too.
Background
I started violin at age eight after years of begging my parents—heavily inspired by my musical sisters. Growing up in a musical family, I also studied piano and later took up the viola. As a high school student, I studied in Munich, Germany as a Rotary International exchange student, and later pursued a B.A. in Violin Performance at the University of Washington while teaching private lessons.
Over the years, I’ve taught hundreds of students and performed with string quartets, symphonies, and even rock bands. These days, I play in a local band, Pinetones, with some dear friends—it’s all about fun and connection through music.
My students have gone on to:
Win spots in prestigious youth orchestras, including Queensland Youth Orchestras, Western Suburbs String Orchestra, Seattle Youth Symphony, Bellevue Youth Symphony, and Cascade Youth Symphony
Serve as concertmasters and section leaders
Perform in statewide competitions such as All-State Orchestra and Solo & Ensemble Competitions
Attend summer intensives and festivals
Receive AMEB exam results ranging from Level 4 to AMus with Honours and High Distinction
