About

Hello! I’m Heesoo, a passionate and dedicated cello teacher based here in Melbourne. My teaching is informed by my extensive performance experience and a deep understanding of cello technique.

In 2024, I had the pleasure of performing Elgar’s Cello Concerto No. 1 with the South Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. At the age of 14, after winning the Young Instrumentalist Prize, I performed the third movement of Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto No. 1 with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. I also had the wonderful opportunity to collaborate with the Brescia Orchestra in Italy at the Talent Music Summer Festival in 2019, where I performed the first movement of Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1.

My dedication and talent have been recognised through numerous accolades, including the Sydney Eisteddfod Doctors’ Orchestra Instrumental Award in 2022. As a recipient of the Dean’s List for academic excellence and the Henderson’s Traveller’s Quartet Scholarship at the Sydney Conservatorium in 2022 and 2023, I had the invaluable experience of touring Europe with my quartet, learning from esteemed chamber musicians Gregor Sigl and Oliver Wille. Furthermore, I was honored to be invited back to Paris for a solo recital at the renowned Salle Cortot in 2023.
Beyond my solo engagements, I am an active professional musician, working as a casual player with Opera Australia since late 2022 and with Orchestra Victoria since 2024. This professional experience brings a rich dimension to my teaching, offering students unique insights into the world of orchestral performance.

Whether you’re just starting your cello journey or are an advanced student aiming to refine your skills, I offer personalised lessons tailored to your individual needs and goals. My approach is patient and encouraging, and I strive to create a supportive learning environment where you can thrive and develop a lifelong love for music.
