Professional Musician and Music Teacher

Dr Georg Corall (Historical Oboist/Recorder Player/Harpsichordist/Piano-Teacher/Composer; Founder & Artistic Director of New Holland Consort; Honorary Research Fellow, UWA), see www.georgcorall.com

Dr Georg Corall began his tertiary studies in recorder and harpsichord at the Hochschule der Künste, Berlin, and completed his studies of historical oboe instruments and recorder with Renate Hildebrand at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater ‘Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’, Leipzig. He holds a BM in Early Music Performance. He also holds a music teaching degree in historical woodwinds from the Hochschule für Musik, Hamburg. He concluded his musical training at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Switzerland), arguably the most prestigious centre of Early Music teaching and scholarship in the world. Georg completed his academic studies for the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts at The University of Western Australia (UWA) successfully in 2013. Most recently, Georg was granted a further scholarship, this time from Monash University in Melbourne, and commenced his studies for a PhD in historical musicology.
In addition to his own ensembles (les hautboïstes de prusse and the New Holland Consort – formally known as ‘Perth Baroque’), Georg has performed and recorded nationally and internationally with musicians such as Hans-Martin Linde, Joshua Rifkin, Herman Max, Holger Eichhorn, and Gerhard Schmidt-Gaden; and ensembles such as Cappella Coloniensis, Orchester der Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, Aradia Baroque Toronto, Tölzer Knabenchor, Montréal Baroque, and Musicalische Compagney Berlin. A number of these CDs have won international prizes. The reviews for the recording of J. S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio claim that ‘if the world altogether needs another recording of this work, then it is this CD’. Georg was the music director for a 2013 production of Venus and Adonis by John Blow and in 2014 of Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell. The production of Venus and Adonis was brought to Denmark, WA and was received by a very enthusiastic sold-out audience. In 2014, he was the Artist-in-Residence at the State Library WA for which he composed the Freycinet Suite. Georg was the Music Director for the 2017 Denmark Festival of Voice’s production of The Judgment of Paris (1701), composed by John Eccles. In 2018 and 2019 Georg conducted the Gilbert & Sullivan Shows Patience, The Mikado, and Yeomen of the Guard for the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Western Australia.
