Since 1977, I have had experience teaching piano and music theory privately and in schools including Carey Grammar School, Sienna College and Knox College in Victoria, Australia.
During that time I have taught students from all levels – beginner to diploma and of all ages from 6 to beyond 70’s.
On the formal side, my students have enjoyed success in both practical and theoretical music examinations with an overall pass rate of in excess of 98%.
In addition, I have taught many students who learn for leisure as well as those wanting to attain specific levels and goals.
Also, I have prepared many students for music theory exams and have specialised in fast track courses to have students pass additional requisite theory exams with as little as 8 weeks study.
I offer a theory study option via the internet for those who are not local to me. This service has proven very effective for students in remote areas.
While I predominantly teach and concentrate on Classical music, I have spent a number of years playing in bands and accompanying singers in modern music styles including stage and musicals, jazz and pop.
I am proficient in arranging and in ‘reduction arrangements’ where complex music is simplified while retaining the essence of the original.
On the lighter side, I have a famous namesake who as far as I understand, knows nothing about piano teaching as I know nothing about golf!
I am also extremely proud to be able to trace my piano teaching heritage in an unbroken lineage all the way back to Johann Sebastian Bach.
