Matthew provides instrumental music lessons in homes around Melbourne.
An experienced classical performer and instrumental teacher, Matthew is a former opera singer who performed regularly with Opera Australia and toured Australia twice with Co-Opera. More recently he has played in a number of community orchestras on double bass including the Essendon Symphony and South Melbourne Symphony. In 2026 he has performed with Melbourne Symphonia, Surrey Hills Orchestra and Ballarat Symphony.
Matthew graduated with a Diploma, and Bachelor, of Music from Melba Conservatorium of Music and a Graduate Diploma of teaching from Melbourne University. He has also studied piano tuning.
With a focus on accelerated learning, Matthew has taught students from 5 to 70 years of age who have had success in public performance and AMEB exams. A+ was achieved by a primary aged student in grade 8 piano after 2 years of lessons. He has also taught classroom music in public, Catholic and private schools around Melbourne at all year levels from prep to VCE, with instrumental graduates in piano, cello and voice.
In schools he also directed and accompanied choirs that performed genres from classical through to pop’ and were described as ‘better than professional’. Former students have been awarded scholarships to private and select entry schools including the Victorian College of the Arts, Brighton Grammar and University High.
